This is a great philosophy for classroom management that can be employed by any teacher k-12, or even in parenting. That said, it is probably more relevant for teachers of students grades 1-8, since that's where most examples are taken.
The goal of the book is to provide an approach to managing behavior that is less stressful for all involved, more successful, and does not harm the teacher-student relationship. The basic philosophy is that students need guidance in order to identify their own problematic behavior, and when provided with this guidance they learn to participate in solving their own problems.
Each chapter of the book introduces a guiding principle, which is explained and then backed up with examples and dialogues between student and teacher.
My only criticism is that there is a lack of examples involving older (grades 9-12) students.

A must for school staff!

I purchased this book because I've started teaching as a substitute at my childs school. We have also completed the Loving our kids on Purpose series by Danny Silk, which is based on love and logic. My husband and I are currently reading through Parenting with Love & Logic. This book is full of practical advice for being a calm and loving teacher that sets good limits and also helps kids to be responsible for their own actions. I'm not one for a lot of anecdotal stories, I like concrete advice and suggestions and tips and this book is full of them and has really given me a new perspective on how to be a positive presence in the school.

Love & Logic makes a lot of sense and the book is easy to read/understand. I like that it is not a system based on rewards or punishments; it is simply guiding you in a way to communicate with your students. It is a great companion if you are able to attend a training. It is a lot of information, though, so it is not something that can be learned and put into practice overnight. You will likely need to read, re-read, take notes, and practice the Love & Logic methods; it will take a long time for the methods to become habit and be implemented effectively.
